ADDITIONAL EQUIPMENT TIPS

  • Extra eyeglasses if you wear them, and a spray to prevent them from fogging.
  • Good footwear is vital.  You should have either removable liners or plan to bring boot warmers.  Wet feet are cold feet.
  • Practice with your weapon using your heavy clothes, especially important for archery hunters. (string clearance)
  • Bringing a cold firearm into a warm environment will cause condensation.  A ziplock bag with an oily rag in your hard case would be adequate for a quick wipe down
  • Use oil sparingly on your rifle action as it can cause stiffness when combined with the cold and in worst case, a misfire.  Semi automatics are very prone to this.
  • Choose a premium controlled expansion bullets as shots may be presented at a less than perfect angle and these deer are big!
